Haiti Hoping & Praying for Peace & Safety

This has been a very difficult year for the people of Haiti. Gang violence, robberies, and kidnapping unfortunately became all too normal. As most of you know the president was assassinated by a large mercenary gang and the investigation is still ongoing. For the first few days confusion reigned as two people, previous prime ministers, vied to be named the new president. That contest has now been resolved and we hope and pray that the new president will quickly organize new elections.

And now the southwest part of the country has been devastated by another major earthquake. Thousands killed, missing or injured. While Tytoo and the immediate area have not been affected we pray for all who are suffering loss, front line workers, and the churches as they minister in a difficult time.

In spite of the political chaos and frequent closings, the school was able to finish the year. Examinations were completed and most report cards have been obtained for those who sponsor children. Those we have been able to obtain will be mailed out shortly.

Inflation continues to challenge the Haitian people and the country re-mains the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. Poverty often results in parents attempting to place their children in orphanages so that they receive meals and are able to attend school.

At Tytoo we try to help families keep their children at home through programs like Starfish and the School sponsorship program, but sometimes the circumstances are such that our orphanage is the best option. This was the case recently when these four year old twin boys, whose mother recently died, became part of our Tytoo family.

We are hoping and praying that God will touch someone’s heart to sponsor these boys.
